Cynically Sweet (Booklikes)

I'm not the most active user here on Booklikes. In fact, sometimes I forget that it even exists. However, I endeavor to come back and post more stuff that I enjoy.

My reviews aren't guaranteed to be something you agree with and my perspective on books isn't something most people generally want. However, I still hope that there's something you can gain from them and you don't feel as if you've wasted your time reading them.

Don't just take my word for it; read the books yourself and form your own opinion!

999 Problems: A Manlove & Kickerdick Trick

999 Problems: A Manlove & Kickerdick Trick - Axel Howerton I purchased this book today, though I use that term loosely as it was free on Amazon.com.au. A few months back, I signed up to the email newsletter of Coffinhop (http://coffinhop.com/) press. I received an ecopy of another book, A Very Merry Manlove & Kickerdick Xmess, for free in return for a review. It's by the same author and features the same characters. Tonight, I read both and, am happy to say that I really liked both books.

999 Problems: A Manlove & Kickerdick Trick by Axel Howerton is about Artie Menlowe and Jurgen Kierkedoek. In his early days, Jurgen used to do dirty deeds. When he and Artie go into a music shop, they get into a bit of trouble. Soon enough, they're in the back with Morris who offers them a job to earn a little bit of money. At first, it seems to go easier than either of them expected, but things go wrong.

Just like the other book, I absolutely loved this. I don't know what it is. It might be the way the author writes, but Artie and Jurgen just seem like such a magical couple. It just seems like they're truly perfect for each other. Their conversations and the way they interact seem very natural. Even the background characters seem very fitting for the book. There isn't anything (that I can think of) that was out of place in the book. The thing I like most is that it's very upbeat. Even when things go wrong, there's a good attitude in the writing and the characters turn the negative portions into an advantage for themselves.

I'm very happy with this book and really would like to read more by Axel Howerton in future, whether it be another Manlove & Kickerdick story or something else. 5 stars from me!
